Since an early age, Mariette has realized that her talents lie deep in the heart of music. Having experienced various genre of music with particular influence from Fado and French music and from the “African Drum”, she has developed her own unique “From the Heart and Soul” style which has proved popular with everyone, young and not so young.
Born in Bindura, a village in Zimbabwe, and raised in South Africa, Mariette is now a recorded artist, singer, and song writer at I.U. Studios. At the tender age of 18, she came second in a National Singing competition but her father, a preacher, decided she should focus on her studies and put her fledgling music career on hold. Her first manager, in 1989, was the well-known impresario, Ceasar de Almaida of S.A.B.C. fame, but she, tragically, lost her voice for some ten years but never gave up her love for music.
With a little help from her eldest son, U-One, a singer/songwriter in his own right, Mariette has completed her, already highly-acclaimed, solo Album “GYPSY SOUL” which will be released very soon. Some of her songs are already being aired on radio stations, both overseas, and on West Coast Radio, and Radio Houtstok, and the West Coast of Cape Town has nicknamed her “Roxette of the West Coast” – such is her passion for her work. Her song, “If you only knew”, was posted on the Internet with overwhelming response and has, even, been labelled by overseas listeners as the “Next James Bond Theme Song”.
Her second Album is also in the making with the working Title “Rock Album about Life” and is an exciting, in-depth view on how music can “speak” to the soul.
Mariette has performed with many Artists, including Neverside Band, Danie Nieuhaus, What’s-Up, Bandana, to name but a few and she will now be focussing this year on performing “live” at many more events and singing songs from her first Album as well as providing a “taster” for some of her work still to come.
