Editor of the Hickam Kukini, the official newspaper for the U.S. Air Force at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. Wrote “Airman of the Week” profiles and edited all stories for publication including visits by President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and various Pacific Rim heads of state to appearances by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band and critical airlift missions to provide disaster relief to Southeast Asia. Prior to this assignment, I was a reporter for a variety of Advertiser publications, including several weekly community newspapers, Homescape Magazine, Dining Out and others.

Wrote feature stories for a variety of local publications, including more than 150 cover stories and at least that many inside features for MidWeek Magazine, the best read publication on Oahu. Also wrote four books, three featuring renowned marine artist Wyland. The Art of Wyland (1991) was the best-selling art book in the United States for three consecutive years.

Coordinated production and placement of print advertising during 1986 fare wars in national publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and almost every major daily in the country.

Straub Clinic & Hospital / Honolulu, October 1995 – April 1999
Senior Corporate Writer. Concepted and wrote print, broadcast and collateral advertising for one of the largest hospital systems in the state of Hawaii. One television campaign won several industry awards. Also wrote and maintained four newsletters.
GTE Hawaii Tel / Honolulu / March 1991 – April 1994
State Public Information Manager. Responsible for all media relations, external communications and customer notification for the only local exchange telephone company in Hawaii. Served as media spokesperson, conducted news conferences and wrote most news releases. Also wrote the company's annual reports, customer newsletters and executive speeches. Handled local, national and international press from a thrown-together media center on the island of Kauai the day after it was devastated by Hurricane Iniki in 1992.
On temporary assignment from GTE Hawaiian Tel, I was given a discretionary award for a feature story and photography in Los Angeles during the 1993 Southern California fires. Other awards include: Pele (AAF, 2001), Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park direct marketing campaign; Koa Anvil (PRSA, 1994), GTE Hawaiian Tel Annual Report; Three Ilimas (IABC, 1992-94), GTE Hawaiian Tel Annual Report; Award of Excellence (International Assoc. of Medical Marketers, 1997), Straub “When It Really Matters” television campaign.
