Magazine Editor, Web Editor, Journalist
I am currently the Editor of Local Secrets: the Cambridge online magazine and lively guide to everything. In my capacity as Editor, I produce and edit the online magazine and bi-weekly eZine, as well as manage the editorial department. The role of editor at Local Secrets involves far more than simply editing written content, as it encompasses the maintenance of the entire front end website including all editorial and promotional content. It is also the role of the editor to manage the rest of the editorial team and numerous outside contributors to the magazine. This includes administering and managing the budget, fixing deadlines and generating content of interest to our wide range of readers. Local Secrets is one of Cambridge’s premier online magazines, read by over 70,000 people a week, and whose Monday magazine alone is seen by more than 35,000 subscribers. Editing the magazine is hard work with its myriad responsibilities, but it is also incredibly rewarding and I am proud of the striving changes I have implemented to the content and general feel of the magazine. Before my appointment as Editor, I was the Saffron Walden and South Cambridgeshire Editor at Local Secrets; all of which I consider to be a major achievement since starting to write for the magazine as a regional columnist in late 2008.
I also contribute to various online magazines and publications, including www.crumbsformen.com for which I write and edit the motoring and gadgets sections.
In addition to working for these magazines, I am the owner and editor of www.cambridgejunk.co.uk which is an online magazine that looks at politics and society with a distinctly humorous slant, and www.talkthetorque.com; an aspiring online motoring magazine which is currently receiving about 7000 hits a month. The content provides me with a creative outlet outside of work, as well as allowing me to exercise my other interests and passions in life. In addition to these websites, I also write the comical website www.lifeofrosco.com . In the past I have worked in the IT and e-Commerce industries at various levels. The knowledge and skills I gained from this time remain incredibly useful to this day, and will continue to be so throughout my journalistic career.

In my free time, I also work as a volunteer for The Prospects Trust which is a charity that works with people who have learning disabilities, providing them with training and work opportunities in horticulture and organic market gardening: www.prospectstrust.org.uk.
I have previously worked in the IT and ecommerce industry, dealing in particular with hardware and software support, networking and online content management and marketing material. I have extensive knowledge of the development and application of the Internet as a communications and marketing tool and an in-depth understanding of all the major productivity software, web browsers and web clients (Windows, MAC OS, and Linux based). I have very strong customer facing skills and I am able to work effectively on my own or as part of a team. I possess a strong analytical eye for detail and very good interpersonal skills. I have worked extensively in small dedicated teams within secure and sensitive environments and take pride in my ethics and reliability. I also have excellent problem solving and communication skills and the ability to present information in a clear and succinct manner.

The course gave me an invaluable insight into how technology is used at work and how it has shaped and influenced the workplace. The course particularly focused on the emergence of the internet and modern IT technology and how it fits into modern society. I also gained valuable communication and presentation skills as part of the curriculum and was exposed to many at the time, cutting edge technologies.
