I am an artist from downey california. I was born and raised in montebello but moved to downey when I married my husband chris. I went to whittier college and majored in child development but I fell in love with my minor, art. I like to to take interesting images i see and give them a little twist. By reinterpreting these images in a dia de los muertos style they take on a new life.
Dia de los muertos, or day of the Dead, is a mexican holiday celebrating loved ones that have passed on. Altars are set up with pictures of the deceased and objects and or food that were liked by the loved ones. Decor is very colorful despite the dark subject of death. Skeletons are seen in everyday positions to remember those we have lost.
It is obvious that my mexican roots come out through my work. I like to think that through my work I can connect with the observer. I just hope that people can enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed making them.
