As a Spanish major at Central Washington University, I have lived in South America and have had the opportunity to interpret various times while living there. I have taken courses in intercultural communication and interpreting and have had opportunities to successfully apply the skills acquired in these courses. I have learned cultural sensitivity in intercultural communication and have had practice translating in a professional setting as an intern in the university’s international center as well as with the Baltimore City Health Department WIC office. I have been studying Spanish for nine years and have been using my translating/interpreting skills in the work force, school, and every day life for the last 5 years.
