I am an independent grant writer and blogger with experience in a variety of non-profit work. My approach to creating success for organizations is based on innovative thinking, relationships, and building collaborations. My role with the organizations I work with varies to include grant writing; setting up and writing website content; managing social media sites like Facebook and Twitter; and program consultation.
Most recently, I have written articles about a variety of topics that have been published. The focus of my work is children and families, senior citizens, schools, non-profits, and under-served communities in rural areas.
Before becoming a freelance writer, I was employed as an Executive Director for a non-profit that provided services to families who have children with emotional and behavioral challenges, including medical problems. For the past 15 years I have written grants as well as participated on several grant review teams. I have significant experience developing programs, developing budgets to support the programs, recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring staff and volunteers, as well as assuring the programs hit evaluation and service goals while meeting grant requirements within the allocated budget.
I understand the challenges of trying to manage the daily operations of a non-profit while finding the money to support the desired goals. I am interested in supporting non-profit leaders in their search for relevant funding opportunities, applying for grants, and providing assistance in other ways that would support the goals of the organization. My background in mental health and non-profit management brings an added level of understanding to health and wellness programming.
In addition to writing grant proposals, I have written business proposals, training proposals, fundraising and training plans.
