A dedicated martial artist and “spiritual seeker” the majority of his life, author Shawn K. Carpenter, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the martial arts, personal growth, First Nations ceremonies and spiritual development arenas to play every time he puts pen to paper. Whether he is teaching, involved in ceremony or simply being a father and husband, Shawn continually leads by example, demonstrating the essential balance of a true warrior spirit!
Attaining his black belt at twelve, and opening his first Martial Arts program at the tender age of fourteen, Carpenter has been blessed with having helped many people shape and even re-shape their lives, despite sometimes seemingly overwhelming odds. He has also been fortunate to put into practice all the theories and principles that he espouses in his own life, especially in over a decade’s marriage to his beautiful wife, Keli and in helping to parent their three incredible children. The couple’s combined commitment to honouring the natural spirit within their children has lead them to homeschooling for many years and having contributed stories published in Doreen Virtue’s book, “Crystal Children.”
Shawn also holds a fine arts degree and spent years alongside his wife painting murals, many of which were donations to shelters or retirement homes. Complimenting his martial arts training, Carpenter has been on a "spiritual path" as long as he can remember, having studied many different authors from Neale Donald Walsch and Deepak Chopra to Eckhart Tolle and Adyashanti. He has participated in numerous spirituality/healing ceremonies and workshops, including a 10 month long, intensive spiritual leadership program run by Canadian workshop leader, Henri McKinnon. Alongside his spiritual study, and in honour of his First Nation’s heritage (Cree/Métis), he continues to uphold ancient ceremonies; Shawn is an experienced Sundancer and sacred pipe carrier. Having undergone dramatic personal transformation and realization, himself, Shawn is dedicated to assisting others on their unique journey through life, particularly by what is known as the “way of the warrior.”
Shawn has published many newspaper and magazine articles on martial arts, as well as a weekly email to his current martial arts student base called “message of the week” based on the honour, courage and integrity of living authentically.
Shawn K. Carpenter strives to embody the true spirit of the warrior, in turn honouring each and every person whose life he touches, as an expression of our Divine Oneness.
