Personal Statement:

Completed my first period of college training from 1974-8 working part of my career full time on staff or contract producing 2D-3D illustrations including modifications to others for manual updates for shipbuilding, automotive and aerospace industries including systems, electrical circuit and schematic diagrams and draughtsman’s drawings. Sometimes I produced illustrations from sketches or proportions off the component itself when draughtsman’s drawings weren’t available. Mr aerospace work for military and civil aviation was to AVP70 and ATA 100 specifications. I also produced graphic design layout artwork and logos for leaflets and brochures. Periods between employments on site I worked freelance at home on my desktop computer

Aug 2008-Dec 2019: Working as freelance illustrator at home on my desktop computer using MS Office Suite. I work with Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD 2006 LT 2D-3D and 35mm SLR camera and 28mmwude angle lens digital camera for graphic images inserted into layouts with my scanner, printer and Wacom graphics tablet all used producing artwork for manuals, leaflet and brochures and other types of illustrative material

Pro Drive is an automotive company producing Subaru rally cars I drew 2D-3D and schematic illustrations and systems diagrams including modifications to others inserted into page layouts with text updating maintenance manuals including Austin Rover, Jaguar and Ferrari high performance road cars. Many illustrations I drew by taking proportions of components when draughtsman’s drawings weren’t available

I worked on contract until it expired drawing 2D-3D illustrations, circuit and systems diagrams including modifications to others inserted into page layouts for printing A3-A4 updating manuals for the installation of interior aircraft furniture fittings for Pelita aircraft servicing manuals for Indonesian VIP airline RJ146 and manual updates for flight refuelling probe details for Hercules C-130 for RAF. I drew my illustrations on 35 Isometric grids
Oct 1990-Aug 1993: BAE Systems Ltd, Technical Publications, Chester Road, Woodford, Stockport, Cheshire, SK7 1QR (Now closed) I worked full time on staff for three months at Greengate, Manchester M24 1SA, Technical Publications, Customer Information then transferred to Woodford later working as a senior illustrator with technical authors. I drew 2D-3D illustrations and systems diagrams including modifications to others inserted into page layouts with text updating manuals to ATA100 specifications for the maintenance of ATP 748 and RJ146 civil aircraft. I worked in Engineering Design, Customer Support and customer Information Core Sections providing updates for manuals IPC, CMM and AMM. I also produced customer training manuals and slide presentations later being made redundant

I worked with technical authors full time on staff in shipside and engineering technical publications drawing
2D-3D illustrations including modifications to others inserted into page layouts with text for printing A3-A4 on armament manual updates for MOD these were 4.5 Mk 8 navel guns, FH70 155mm field howitzer, GBT 155mm and AS90 155mm self-propelled howitzers, Sea Wolf and Sea Dart missile systems and schematic diagrams for nuclear submarines for Royal Navy. I also produced graphic artwork on page layout design for leaflets and brochures. Some illustrations I produced with design draughtsman turning their technical drawing ideas into 3D for slide presentations for MOD for armament sales. From Dec 1978 to April 1979 I was sent on loan to Vickers Offshore (Now closed) at Craven House in Barrow drawing 2D-3D illustrations of North Sea oil rigs showing their layout on the sea bed

I trained drawing 2D-3D illustrations using ellipse guides and proportional dividers taking scaled proportions off technical drawings producing their finished line work on Permatrace film and CS10 lineboard using Rotring pens for printing A3-A4. My work included drawing scientific illustrations using Acrylic water colour paint and 2B-3B-4B pencils on Cartridge paper and the stipple technique using Rotring pens on CS10 lineboard. I trained using Airbrush inserting rendering onto my illustrations giving them textures and shadows with direction of light. My training included photography using 35mm SLR cameras for producing pictures for my graphic layouts. I worked on 3 months industrial training at BAE Systems (Marine) Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness technical publications (Engineering) drawing illustrations for MOD armaments for manual updates working with technical authors. Gained: B/A (Hons) Studying Information Illustration a 3 year full time course using Adobe Illustrator-Photoshop CS3 and MS Office Suite including Word Processing, Desktop Publishing and Powerpoint. I used Illustrator and Photoshop and Wacom graphics tablet to render my illustrations giving them textures and shadows with direction of light for their layout in graphical artwork I produced for their final presentation I also used digital cameras for images inserted into them. I trained in my 1st and 2nd years using PowerPoint producing presentations, I produced some illustrative material myself and collected other information off the Internet to insert into my layouts I designed doing research and planning on the chosen subject for presentation to an audience. I applied research skills in writing essays and discussions at seminars. In my 2nd year did 3 months industrial training at Clayton Engineering in Blackpool drawing and updating illustrations for manual updates for ventilation systems manufactured here including new line work using Adobe Illustrator CS3. During my final year I wrote a dissertation called, The Historical Development of Illustrative Art which described the development of art in different cultures, religions and political environments from the start of humane development to the present
