Education: I graduated from Wichita State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts, majoring in journalism and minors in history, political science and business. I hold a master's of liberal studies from Fort Hays State University with a concentration on composition and English literature.
Employment: I write for the Amarillo Independent, a four-year-old multimedia newsite (www.amaindy.com), and will teach composition in the fall 2011 semester at West Texas A&M University as an adjunct in composition.
Experience: I have worked for newspapers as a reporter and editor since 1975, primarily with the Amarillo Globe-News, winning awards for spot news writing. I have covered business, energy, education and government beats, and supervised the night copy desk for five years. As business editor, I helped develop a monthly business publication and supervised a staff of two writers. As city editor, I supervised a staff of seven reporters, with duties including teaching writing techniques and editing copy for accuracy and readability. I have also free-lanced for business publications. From 1986 to 1988 I was editor of the Atchison (Kansas) Daily Globe, supervising a staff of six and writing editorials and a column.
