This position combines the two part-time positions that I have held at UCLA’s American Indian Studies Center. From September 2009 through September 2010 this position was modified to include the responsibilities of the Book Review Editor: finding and assigning reviewers for books submitted by publishers to the quarterly American Indian Culture and Research Journal.

Assistant Editor (part-time) 2007 to 2009
Responsible for finding and assigning reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the quarterly American Indian Culture and Research Journal. Each manuscript must be reviewed by three reviewers and approved by at least two before the manuscript can be accepted for publication. Search for potential reviewers for the journal.

Copy Editor (part-time) 2006 to 2009
Copy edits articles and book reviews for the American Indian Culture and Research Journal. Responsible for exchange ads for the journal and worked as production editor and copy editor on annual AISC calendar. Copy editor for various AICS documents including programs, reviews, calendars, and flyers.

In December 1997, assumed responsibility of the day-to-day operational needs of a six-person editorial department while maintaining the duties of a senior editor. In addition to responsibilities as production editor, contributed to the editorial department’s overall participation in the studio, helped to resolve many daily style and legal discrepancies, developed editorial tools, and made difficult judgment calls when necessary. Handled managerial responsibilities when the managing editor was unavailable. Led style-guide meetings. Participated on Landor Safety Committee (co-chairperson).

Production Editor January 1996 to October 1998
Responsible for production editing on mechanicals and bluelines in accordance with the client’s style guides and brand to guarantee all pieces are free of errors, and all text and design elements are placed properly. Worked closely with electronic production artists and copy editors. Coordinated and implemented training of all new production editors to ensure consistency in knowledge of the current templates and style guides as well as the mechanics and creative styles of the clients and internal departments. Clients include Microsoft, Continental Mills, Yakima Brewing, Tektronix, Corbis, and Haggen Stores.
