I have working as a freelance writer with a bachelor's in English literature. I have studied the greatest horror writers of our time such as Lovecraft, King, and Poe. Although, most of Lovecraft's personal views are abhorrent, his invention of the "unknowable" and "unfathomable" as objects of horror was revolutionary in it's time. Not showing the monster allows the reader to fill in the blanks. As we all know, the writer cannot begin to touch what the reader can imagine on his own.
