Sam began painting since 2004 under the fine art course. He graduated from Hong Kong Arts School in 2007 and received a Diploma in Fine Arts.
Lam Sum’s early work is inspired by David Salle’s (American painter and leading contemporary figurative artist ) work in concept of random juxtaposition and popular/found image.
According to that inspiration, Lam’s subject matter tended towards the popular culture , the humen’s figure, the symbols, and sometimes into the mind of his unknown world, and usually was combined in ways that appeared deliberately incomprehensible.
On the other hand, He has bold brushstrokes and strong colours which reflected his confidence. His large-scale work showed his ability and potential in art-making.
