Spearheaded an independent review to assess short-term peripheral cannulation against best practice guidelines as part of a whole-system review into intravenous (IV) line complications due to a rise in catheter-related bloodstream infections.
•Catheter-related bloodstream infections had cost the trust hundreds of thousands of pounds each year; this review was initiated to maximise safety for patients and health professionals while also improving practice standards without the need to increase expenditure.
•Investigated, recommended and implemented changes necessary to improve IV practice and thus improve patient outcomes.
•Engaged with the senior nursing team to immediately enact and implement an action plan.

Cardiff Metropolitan University
Partnered with Cardiff Metropolitan University, Department of Biomedical Science, to improve training facilities and programs for future generations of Biomedical Scientists, and to develop a first-class training Centre and reference site for Laboratory Medicine Training within Wales & UK.
•Conceived and developed an interactive Blood Science learning space within the Cardiff Metropolitan University campus.
•Managed a case study on how partnering with the medical device industry can improve the learning experiences and outcomes of students and tutors, and prepared and presented results with the IBMS Congress 2017.
•Provided evidence that equipping students with up-to-date and cutting edge knowledge and equipment will improve pre-analytical errors within the NHS and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
•Updated the training program to include new and relevant advances in clinical evidence and innovations in blood sampling and analysis.
•Ensure students were well-versed in the journey of a blood sample, with the most up-to-date and relevant knowledge of the blood science space to set them up for success in their chosen workplace.
