Hello! I’m a Penn State Altoona undergraduate who plans to graduate in May with a degree in English and a minor in Women’s Studies. I love to write, and I take it very seriously; I am entering an MFA in creative writing program in the fall. Also, I enjoy working with others and taking a role in making things happen.

I assist Dr. Sandy Petrulionis in her research work on Thomas Wentworth Higginson, who was a writer, abolitionist, and women’s suffrage supporter. I transcribe letter manuscripts and work with the scanning of microfiche. I have also worked on annotations for The Almanacks of Mary Moody Emerson: A Scholarly Digital Edition for Dr. Sandy Petrulionis and Dr. Noelle Baker.

Penn State Altoona, Writing Commons Tutor Jan 2014 – Current

I work as a peer tutor for other students who come in for assistance and guidance on their written work. I’ve tutored people on a large range of work, which includes formal essays, business writing, creative writing, petitions, and scholarship applications.

Penn State Altoona, Hard Freight Editor Aug 2015 – May 2016

I serve as the Editor for our campus’s literary and visual art magazine. Prior to serving as editor, I have served in assistant and other minor editor roles for specific sections of our magazine. Additionally, I have helped with the print layout production since my second semester. As editor, I created and edited the online magazine, as well as assisted in the production of our open mic events.

Lexington House, Volunteer Tutor Jan 2013 – April 2013

I tutored individuals with varied mental illnesses that affected their day-to-day lives. I assisted two teachers with their lesson plans every Saturday morning, and I even prepared my own lesson for a day based on a fun reading of an excerpt from The Hobbit. I also assisted in giving tests that were used to determine the vocabulary skill level of the clubhouse members.

I worked at the register to take orders, relay the order to the cook, give requested food items, and return change. My other duties included cleaning, refilling, answering the phone, and closing the store at night.
