1. April 2013 to date – currently working as a proofreader at the Namibian Sun newspaper (Namibia Media Holdings – NMH). Proofreading on hard copy, making corrections, checking captions and everything on pages that are to go to print for the next day. I also write editorials for the editor upon request. Sometimes I sub-edit directly on the page in InDesign if there are too many mistakes on hard copy. Double-check corrections done. Point out mistakes in design if necessary.

Recently, I have also done freelance copywriting/sub-editing for the second edition of “Namibia Politics and Administration in Perspective” magazine.

2. Freelance editing and proof reading in Namibia of annual reports for Ro"ssing Foundation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Bank of Namibia, etc. Also proofreading and editing of training manuals, pamphlets, general reports, project proposals, books and academic material as it becomes available. Research and writing of fresh web content as required. I also make suggestions on clarity of content of work edited if required by the client.

Moved to Cape Town since my father was frail and needed surgery and aftercare, stayed in Cape Town for two years while my daughter finished her schooling in 2011 and 2012 at Abbotts’s College and then moved back to Namibia in November 2012. While I was in Cape Town I learnt stained glass art and restoration.

3. Established own Estate Agency called e-PROPERTIES in 2008, but decided it was not for me and started writing content for web-sites and proofreading and editing again, which is more my line of work.

4. Re-located to Swakopmund, Namibia and did free-lance proofreading of court transcriptions for the Namibian Courts (I was sworn-in as proofreader for the Courts), Population Surveys for University of Namibia and other freelance work during 2007.

5. Proofreader and sub-editor for the advertising department of the Namibian newspaper – I also typed up the advertisements on the system from the hand-written version - 2006 for period of 3 months.

6. Personal Assistant to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, writing media releases for Cabinet of the Republic of Namibia and proof-reading documents, writing speeches and briefs, perusing legal documents and advising the Minister accordingly 1998 – 2004. Also worked in various capacities in other directorates in the Ministry after the Minister left and I was left behind as a public servant while he had been a political appointee. I was retired from government service in 2004 and receive a monthly pension with medical aid for life

7. Worked as Head of Administration and Finance for the Namibia National Teacher’s Union (NANTU).Was responsible for 18 bank accounts nationally, closely liaised with auditors (Coopers & Lybrand at the time) and handled all project accounts. Wrote correspondence, speeches, Congress reports, did categorized filing for all union documents with indexing, etc. was responsible for all matters administrative 1992-1998.

8. Worked as Assistant to the General Secretary of the Namibia Union for National Workers (NUNW) – did correspondence, speeches, everything administrative and acted in a representative capacity for the Secretary General when required – 1990 -1991.

Learnt data base processing, analysis and verification while working on the verification of the voters’ roll for the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for the Presidential Elections in 2004 as a Data Centre Official.


Generally, I have thirty plus years of experience mainly in general and financial administration and editing proofreading, copywriting for the media and educational institutions and teaching in adult education. Have worked in many different fields including population and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS issues while working for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, assisted the Deputy Director Ms Hilda Nakakuwa who dealt mainly with reproductive health education in the Ministry. I also worked at the Namibian Communications Commission (now known as CRAN) while I was at the Ministry.
