Kiri Østergaard Leonard grew up in the small village of Boeslum in Denmark, Scandinavia, surrounded by beautiful nature and a wide variety of farmstead animals. While still living in Denmark she attended The Academy of Fine Arts in Aarhus, before leaving her home country behind to continue her studies at the Pratt Institute in New York City. She still resides in New York City, where she thrives as a freelance illustrator. She lives with her husband Alexander Leonard and their two cats Minnie and Mishu.
Kiri enjoys working on projects that range from children’s books to fantasy illustration. She draws upon inspiration from her own childhood, along with nature, mythology, folklore and fairy tales. Her artwork tends to take on an imaginative and whimsical feeling and is often rich with color.
