Experience

Freelance Journalist - Various Agencies
2009-Present
As a Freelance Journalist I’ve worked on numerous projects, written articles for major Australian news outlets, as well as made ongoing contributions to several online and print magazines. For a look at my published works go to: shauncolnan.wordpress.com

Blogger - Shemmabroad
2014-Present
I maintained a travel blog through my travels in 2014. Travelling and reflecting on that travel for an audience gave me an invaluable insight into what sort of travel people are wanting to experience for themselves. For a detailed look go to: shemmabroad.wordpress.com

Shop Assistant - Costume Direct
2013-2014
During my year at Costume Direct I instigated the implementation of a picking system to help the company economise incoming and outgoing stock. I also developed customer relationships, helping customers decide the products they should purchase.

Intern - ABC’s 7:30
June - July 2012
I was one of eight students across New South Wales to earn a prestigious work experience opportunity at the ABC. During my month at 7:30 I worked with some of the best journalists in Australia, learning from them and absorbing the professional working environment of our national public broadcaster. I conducted broadcasted interviews (including Tibetan Kalon Tripa, Dr Lobsang Sangay), wrote copy and researched stories. I also made preliminary incursions into what became the story that prompted the Royal Commission into Institutional Child ****** Abuse.
Call Centre Operator – Residex
2009-2011
As a Call Centre Operator I was at the frontline of communications with real estate agents, collecting data for publication in the Sunday Telegraph. My time at Residex taught me to work within a team and the importance of maintaining relationships to meet targets. My time at Residex was pivotal in cementing my love for customer service, working diligently to exceed expectations. I also worked on a quarterly report for Residex which saw me work independently, gathering research and compiling data for promotional purposes.

Intern - Nine News Room
July 2011
I worked as an intern in the Nine News Room in July of 2011, shadowing journalists and cameramen as they compiled the nightly news. This internship gave me experience in the field, taught me how to react quickly to news stories and produce scripts to a deadline.

Work Experience - Australian Financial Review
2010
In July of 2010, I shadowed the Australian Financial Review’s Multimedia Manager, Marc Tewksbury, sitting in on meetings and the production of a video for AFR’s online content.

Work Experience - Business Review Weekly
2009
In January of 2009, I shadowed BRW’s Editor in Chief, Sean Aylmer, collaborating with him on an article for the magazine.
