Career Objective & Philosophy

Having worked as a counselor and instructor in a variety of settings for over 30+ years, I am committed to the development and betterment of others through my efforts. I seek opportunities that enable me to use my educational and work experience as well as a counseling skill in serving those youth, agencies, organizations, and educational institutions which share my goals and commitment to others. In addition, in the future, I plan to seek licensure and certification which will provide additional opportunities to work with families and youth, and in doing so, I can continue my work as an agent for positive change. I also diligently pursue association with those organizations which demonstrate a professional commitment and awareness to the educational and social needs of youth and their families. I believe I am able to make those applications to the world outside the classroom through my knowledge and experience in a variety of related settings,
and in doing so, will enable me to continue to make those significant contributions I have made
throughout my career.
Although I am now retired from public education with VSRS benefits, I do not consider
myself to be formally retired, nor may I ever will. I am currently involved in a variety of positions
where I am able to apply my skills, abilities, and those forms of involvement which I may have
always hoped for upon retirement.

where I am able to apply my skills, abilities, and those forms of involvement which I may have
always hoped for upon retirement. As a former Certified Proofreader for a law firm, I recall
the enjoyment of producing a finished product which provided me with the fulfillment of assisting
others in tasks that were very important to them. My M.Ed. in Counseling helped me more than I
ever realized it would as I would move from my skills as a Proofreader and utilize my contribution
as a Counselor in the completion of our task. This was perhaps the “job” that I recall enjoying most, for I was able to develop close working relationships with others while making significant
contributions.

Personal & Health

I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my wife Barbara, (teacher) and sons Justin and Aaron. I have an active interest in sports, health & fitness, (6-6, 255) music, community events, our church, and The Arts. I have recently completed my twenty-eighth year in public education and am planning to continue to utilize my communication and counseling skill in areas which provide opportunities to utilize my skills in assisting others. I consider my work as a service to others a personal priority as well as an obligation.
