Life/70 Mainframe developer - Consultant

Working to support two Life Insurance releases of a product called Life/70. Life/70 is a third party Assembler based product for life Insurance administration from New Business application submission through Policy Administration. Billing, Accounting and Agent compensation.

I was responsible for

1) analysis of business requirements,
2) creating Technical Specifications of the changes being made
3) generating modifications to Life/70 programs
4) Unit testing the changes and assisting in Full parallel of production Quality Cycles.

Allstate Insurance January 2005 – October 2012
Life/70 Mainframe developer

I worked on The Third Party Life/70 Assembler software. My involvement was in the following areas:

1) New Business
2) Policy Administration
3) Billing and Collections
4) I wrote interfaces with home grown and third party vendor software (DMS)

Major accomplishments included:

1) Taking over a homegrown system to apply rerates to uncapped cancer products. Enhanced the process to include Disability and ‘Shop’ products.
2) Developed the ability to link cases using a Master Case/Child case scenario. This interface involved changes to CICS SALD transactions and involved changes to Billing and collections to combine billing based on the Master Child relationships.
3) Activated and enhanced the Life/70 Accident and Health rerate capability. This included the development of the Insured notification process and well as the ability to generate 0 accounting designed to advance the Paid to dates at the case level.
4) Also enhanced the New Business subsystem to automatically access the correct rates from Rate book. Development was in both Assembler and COBOL.
5) I successfully installed over 300 enhancements and fixes into production with zero defects. The project sizes ranged from 10 hours to over 300 hours. I worked with both business analysts as well as independently.

Major Work completed included

1) Installed Automatic Correspondence Enhancement to automate Letters for Life/70. Modified system to use an orphan agent as servicing agent instead of the C-Trailer Writing Agent.
2) Worked on Created way to Automatically Generate Payment transactions to Life/70 from an EFT file containing Government Allotment payments.
3) Modified Life/70 to handle payment transactions that came from a Vantage-One Interface program and to pass additional data to the MSA interface program help reconcile the payments.
4) Modified Life/70 to not allow a currently available VUL Fund to be issued after a fund cutoff date. However allowed re-issues and Policy Administration Maintenance.
5) Installed code to support an Accelerated Term Insurance Rider and Accelerated Death Benefit Rider.
6) Fixed a problem in CPASTMT that caused SOCA decimal overflow.
7) Performed on-call responsibilities and worked on System Service Requests.

I also learned the importance of documenting modifications as well as structured programming.
