I have worked almost 40 years in community journalism, first as a general assignment reporter and later as a copy editor. I thrive on deadline pressure, and am able to propose changes in grammar, wording and syntax while staying true to the writer’s intention and, always, with the goal always of making the subject more understandable for the reader. I have experience as a public relations manager for a large educational service agency in which I mastered the art of drafting a press release that meets the needs of the organization while conforming with the writing style of daily and weekly newspapers.
I am an excellent writer. In my professional career, I have written countless news stories and opinion pieces. I currently author a weekly editorial page column. In my recent (though admittedly late) turn to fiction writing, I am working on a historical novel about life in the anthracite coal region of Pennsylvania.
