Award winning science fiction writer turned editor. From my background in science to real-world editorial experience, and with a life-long love of science fiction, I am ready to edit your books.
I have 5 years of experience as a Copy Editor for a weekly newspaper, 2 years of experience as a Technical Editor for an engineering society's publishing wing, and freelanced for the Vice President then President of the American Society of Journalists and Authors for 3 years. At the newspaper I took personal pride in proofreading every single article twice - once when it first came in, and a second time when it was laid out. Those articles included news, sports, opinions, reviews, classifieds and features. For the engineering society I evaluate technical documents for relevance and quality. For the VP/P, I performed background research, selected topics for articles, crafted pitches, and reached out to experts for interviews.
I hold a Master's and Bachelor's in Materials Science and Engineering and have successfully proposed, presented, and had accepted PhD research in nano and biotechnology. I have received commendations for my clarity of style, my energy, and my ability to make the complex simple.
I can edit your technical information, advise you on your communicative approach, and streamline your sentences. I write as well; In the past few years I have contributed articles to the Materials Research Society Bulletin, won a fiction award for a science fiction extended story, and routinely authored historical humor for the weekly newspaper.
In the past two years I have managed over 41 freelance writers, some of whom I hired through this site. I understand both sides of the working relationship. My rates are based on the Editorial Freelancer's Association, which are posted here: http://www.the-efa.org/res/rates.php
I will happily convert my hourly rate to a word or page rate as they specify.
