Vanessa is a graduate of Winthrop University’s Visual Communication Design program; from which she obtained a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration. As an aspiring artist, she hopes to make her mark in the world of children’s book illustration. She finds the ability to create visuals that have the power to stimulate a child’s vast imagination extremely appealing.
Vanessa also enjoys doing caricatures or cartoon portraits, anime inspired art, greeting card illustrations and many other types of illustrative work. She has been creating art since she first picked up a crayon as a child, according to her older sister, and hopes to continue doing so for years to come! She currently works from her studio in Columbia, South Carolina and has illustrated the following:
No Fear For Freedom: The Story of the Friendship 9
written by Kimberly P. Johnson
The Song of the Armadillo (not yet published)
The Song of the Armadillo: Coloring & Activity Book (not yet published)
written, illustrated and designed by Vanessa J. Thompson
Some say that she is “frighteningly unique” with her strange perspective on things and her obsessive love of vivacious costumes, face paint and colorful wigs.
But when asked to describe herself, she’d just say that:
“There’s no other possible explanation...
I’m just outrageously Vanessa!”
