Objective:
To find an editing position that will allow me to help authors make their work the best in preparation for publishing; to find a position that will compensate me fairly for my expertise and time; and to find a position that will allow me to work from home.

Experience:
? Majored in English, University of Alaska, Fairbanks, 1992-1994 (did not complete degree because of military reassignment)
Teacher’s assistant while in school – assisted students with editing of papers – including but not limited to grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
? Throughout work experience (hospitality industry, education industry, forensic identification), assisted supervisors and co-workers with editing letters, memos, and professional papers for presentation. (Over thirty years experience.)
? Authored two novels for publication; worked extensively with editors to make the novels the best possible.
? Have edited novels and short stories for authors.
? Have assisted authors in “deconstructing” their work in order to find the weak points and assisted them in making the necessary corrections.
? Have assisted another freelance editor with her work overflow.

Qualifications:
? Critical reader.
? Excellent writer.
? Extensive knowledge of grammar and punctuation, including but not limited to:
? Recognize the misuse of words (lay vs. lie, their/they’re/there, etc).
? Recognize split infinitives and how to correct/prevent them.
? Recognize dangling participles and how to correct/prevent them.
? Understand the proper use of commas, semi-colons, colons, and exclamation marks, etc.
? Understanding of what makes a good story a great one, including but not limited to:
? Point-of-view – first, third person, third person limited, omniscient, etc.
Recognize “head hopping” and knowledgeable in making necessary corrections.
? Dialogue tags and the misuse of tags such as “laughed,” “groaned,” “sighed,” “gushed,” etc.
? Finding and helping correct plot holes, inconsistencies, inaccuracies, etc.
? Excellent and accomplished fact checker.
? Familiar with both Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Style Book.
? Proficient in Word and Track Changes/Comments, as well as Excel and Outlook.
? Efficient in time management, goal setting, and meeting/exceeding deadlines.
? Diplomatic; team worker; multi-tasker when necessary, although I prefer to concentrate on one thing at a time and do it well.
