This is a t-shirt design I did for guil-tees™, an online urban fashion retailer client. They gave me the phrase and asked for some ideas on design. I liked a more hand-written typeface but nothing childish or script-like. My first idea was to turn either the last straight segment of the "h" in "Bitch" or the first straight segment of "N" in "DOWN" into a downward-pointing arrow. But that seemed a little too literal, even somewhat pedestrian. I was thinking about the sports phrases we're used to hearing on the street and I kept coming back to "crushed it". Then the idea to take the letters of "DOWN" and crush them down vertically would be an interesting and unique look! It took some time, as I was getting the look I liked I was concerned that the readability was getting compromised. I had to incorporate some restraint and finished with this version, which the client liked. © 2014 guil-tees™. All rights reserved.

This is a t-shirt design I did for guil-tees™ , an online urban clothing retailer client. This design is marketed for women, so I went straight for the Hot Pink on black! For a typeface I was pulled towards the more elegant scripts so the design would have a lot of natural curves to it. As soon as I pulled in the best typeface and looked at the "r" the horns just popped RIGHT into my head! With a little tweaking, I got the devilish look that I wanted it to have. I also loved the idea of making the end of the "r" into a little tail, with motion strokes to make it wiggle. The client didn't take to it, so I removed if for their final version. What would have been a more suitable top for the "i" than a halo! After all, even sinners have a little angel in them! © 2014 guil-tees. All rights reserved.

This is a t-shirt design I did for guil-tees™, an online urban fashion retailer client. They gave me the acronym and asked for a visual design for it. While I was looking for typefaces for their other designs, I came across a digital font that I always wanted to use for something fitting but just hadn't come across the right project. This was FINALLY the one! I got the idea of putting "G.A.M.E." on a scoreboard with the digital font looking like the red LED display you would usually see in a school gym. The client liked everything but the scoreboard frame around the letters, so I removed it for their final version. © 2014 guil-tees™. All rights reserved.

This is a concept for an e-Book that I created for a client. To my knowledge the book has not yet been published. But I believe the composition, created out of wholly separate stock images, should be included in my portfolio anyway. The original draft had a bottle of whiskey and a whiskey glass in it, which I felt made a stronger statement. But the client was/is an avid non-drinker and so I removed them.

This is an example of my using the "refine edge" tool in Photoshop to extract the subject of one image, while retaining the fine detail of the subject's wispy hair, and compositing it with a new background. I also used some recoloring techniques to make the subject look as if she was photographed in the hallway with the same lighting in the background image. Granted the composition is heavily laden with a rich golden hue overall, which some may not find as pleasant as others might. But with this sample I am demonstrating my ability to blend two different images, which is more challenging when one has a dominant color cast at play as in this example.

I have such a hard time with selecting people in PS and putting them in different backgrounds :P I am in awe of your skill.

I used various tools in Photoshop to edit some photos from a cheerleading competition. In the top image, you can see where the cheerleaders completely blend into the crowd in the background. By applying a soft blur to the crowd and lightening up the girls I created a noticeable visual separation between the subjects and the background. In the middle example. The background was already blurred out nicely, but the subject was very poorly lit. By carefully isolating the subject and applying a lighting filter, I gave the image the appearance that it had been shot with a fill flash when taken. The bottom image also required careful isolation and lighting adjustments, as well as a crop of the girl who was looking off to the side.
