Said "How mystical and beautiful are all of your creations Catherine...absolutely loved them and your very original artworks:)) Thanks for popping by and have been away so apologies for delay. Do try to network and get your beautiful artworks out there ok..You have 200 kudos a day to give out...10 max a person which I recommend as it encourages people to visit and then they can comment and kudo and then your artworks go back up on their wall also and others see them and come visit. It is too easy to get lost in this big site of artists and only by communication does ones artworks become seen. You also have 10 kudos a day for the wall like this one I am tryping now. Your artwork is awesome so do promote it and all shall help you to get it out there...Also do put your email on your about page at the top so that clients can contact you easily without having the hastle of joining up to communicate with you. A lot get work this way Catherine...Wishing you a Fantastic Festive Season:)" to Catherine Callaghan

"Snails see the benefits; the beauty in every inch." This is a line from a great but somewhat obscure song by The Format and has stayed with me for many a years. It's taken on somewhat of a mantra in my day to day. . I chose to show the snail busting through a version of the American flag as a comment on the education system and how I am watching it push and shove the country's children to value nearly nothing unless it is done with great speed. These are not my values and I have so little choice for my own child but to keep her in the system as merely a social benefit. In our home we continue to reinforce the value of stopping to smell the roses and the rewards of moseying about. I do certainly hope things change in this education model and my beloved country can once again find the value in taking its time. Aside from the political value I hope you enjoy this piece for the quirky representation it is. marker and watercolor on watercolor paper

A gift for my dad's birthday after a year of faltering health. Though I am an American and one of several generations my last name has a long history dating back to Munster Ireland. Though I'm familiar with our coat of arms I did some research and found out there were many restrictions on specific colors used to symbolize certain qualities as well as the actual symbols used. I tried to stay true to all these components while adding a personal aesthetic. The only out of context additions were a tad of orange to highlight the creatures fur and the stipple effect in the background because I felt uneasy about the open space. The lighting in my house is terrible at night but I some what like the antiquing effect it gave the paper in this case. markers and watercolors on watercolor paper

Lydia came to us about this time last year. She came as a feral adoptee and now seems to bask in the good life. She usually can be found in or on any form of cardboard. She is particularly favored by a friend of ours whom is moving and this piece is a keepsake for her. The original structure of this piece was done as a blind contour that I built upon as rendered the work. I found in certain circumstances, creating in this way allows me to convey a more expressive dynamic. Markers and Watercolors on watercolor

As we age we take many bridges from one experience to the next. Sometimes we forget or even purposefully leave parts of our younger selves along the way. I am now happening upon some of the old bridges I have already crossed with a new found confidence and discovering some surprises along the way. Here I found a wonderful kite still innocently aloof and unaware of the vacuum of insignificance. Watercolor and marker on watercolor paper

Our local aquarium gives back to the community by offering free Fridays to the town's residents. My daughter and I took advantage of this a few days ago and as we waited for our ride to pick us up we sat outside on the empty fountain and drew the scene. I chose to draw the centerpiece of the fountain, a whale "emerging" from the fountain floor. I took a leap of faith and drew the whale only in marker, committing to the lines as I saw them. Our ride eventually came and I rendered the rest utilizing my noggin. Marker on sketch paper markers on sketch paper

I love living in an area of full season change. I am a seasonal person and look forward to winters cozying up to my family. It seems so natural to hibernate during the cold months, after all so many mammals find it quite a healthy lifestyle. As squirrels are common in our area and they seem to be bustling around dodging the dogs and cats I thought of how cute they must be when they get back to their homes snuggled up with their squirrel counterparts. I hope this work gives you some warm and fuzzies to face the cold months to come! watercolor, markers on watercolor paper

Whether you look to the sky or you look inside, something somewhere is generating the fortune you deserve. Sometimes my creations understand my intent more thoroughly than my brain. I often feel like my brain looks something like this if you were to somehow image my emotional map. With so many experiences having impact on my perceptions and character they sometimes seem oppositional and often chaotic. However, the fabric of me holds them all together- if I give these different aspects tedious attention the fabric will only weave stronger over time and bring peace. Watercolor wash seemed suiting to lay out an ether for this concept. I then layered watercolors and markers to build upon the idea. On a 12"x18" watercolor paper this piece was considerably larger than I have recently been working on. It was a wonderful meditative experience. markers and watercolor on watercolor paper

At this point in my life I am becoming sensitive to the intensity levels of the people around me and the varying ways that intensity affects my own experiences. I believe nature interconnects all things through chaotic harmony- whether we are connected on an atomic, spiritual, psychological school of thought. Here I let the nature of how a composition unfolded over the time of conception to execution and the elements we find in our tangible environment(earth, water, fire and air.) Despite how rigid we create ourselves to learn disciplines and apply them it is the force of these elements and a sense of timing that ultimately decide when we can emerge out of our self made dwellings. watercolors and marker on watercolor paper.

There is an idea that time is a dragon's back. As the dragon travels through space we experience the ups and downs of our life. I particularly like this idea because I have a deep belief that spiritualism and science coexist rather than cancel each other out. The representation of time as a dragon may be a tale to help us cope with the chaotic nature of our lives but to the person it carries it is a personal truth. watercolors and ink on watercolor paper
