Another large foam core cutout display character I made for Trader Joe's during their "Creature Comforts" monster themed-campaign. This one was based off of a rudimentary crayon sketch my boss handed to me of a blue monster dude with a yellow mohawk, green puffer vest and hot pink hot pants. I painted this entirely with paint markers.

A large foam core cutout display character I made for Trader Joe's during their spooky fairytale Halloween campaign. My Big Bad Wolf was at least big enough to scare children, and a pretty good representation of my style. I painted this entirely with paint markers.

This is part of a series I did of original character sculptures. They were miniature-scale fantasy creatures (mostly fairies and goblins) that I sculpted in polymer clay over a wire armature. Hickey has handmade clothing and attached synthetic hair.

Detail of one of my character designs. This is a disgusting rock and roll groupie creature called Hickey that leaves her greasy lipstick stains on her target for days. I later made her into a miniature polymer clay and mixed media sculpture.

Detail of one of my character designs. This is a nasty little fairy named Puke that will drink your beer if you're not looking. I later made him into a miniature polymer clay and mixed media sculpture.

This is an example of my character illustration style when I design characters based off of actual people. I would say that I am influenced by old-school traditional animation, comic book illustration, and caricature.

20"x30" portrait of Billy Idol, mostly done with acrylic paints and colored pencils on illustration board. An example of my more serious/editorial style work.

I painted this in watercolors for a portraiture class at The Savannah College Of Art And Design. We were meant to portray a person and their "inner animal" in the same piece.

This is artwork I made as part of a temporary three-dimensional display for Trader Joe's. I made a large-scale, very long, pop-out banner that ran along the top of the entire vegetable cold case illustrating the health benefits of brocoli and other all natural veggies. I created a character, Virgil, and wrote a children's book style comic strip that explained why brocoli is good for you. These illustrations were drawn with crayons on a notebook paper background.

This was a submission for a workplace safety calendar. It's pretty typical of my style and character design, only these particular characters happen to be based off of real people. I painted the characters digitally and the background is watercolor.

The protagonist in my upcoming children's book, Pinky Dandy. He's an aging rockstar that moved to the suburbs with his pet emu and has to learn how to make friends. This is a digitally colored character on a watercolor background.

This is a large chalkboard advertisement that I made for Trader Joe's. The character design is pretty typical of my style so I felt I should include this. I painted this entirely with paint markers.

About Me:
Hello! I'm Bailey Quillin Cooper. I majored in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design and now I am a full-time sign and display artist at Trader Joe's as well as a freelance illustrator. I specialize in children's book style work, caricature and portraiture, and character design. My favorite subjects are people, animals, rock and roll/alternative subculture, and most of all...creatures and monsters! I particularly enjoy illustrating in the fantasy genre and am a bit of an expert on mythology, cryptozoology, and the supernatural. My preferred mediums are pen and ink/markers, watercolor, and acrylic paints. I am also well-versed in Adobe Photoshop and some other digital art programs. I work in several distinct styles depending on the mood of the particular project at hand,...
