Barrie Jones jamplant@hotmail.co.uk Personal Statement I measure success by my relationships and would therefore hope to be well regarded and held in esteem by those I work for and with. I am a natural and effective communicator at many and diverse levels, an enthusiastic ‘people person’, with a natural capacity for generating ideas, and for interpretation and co-ordination. I consider myself to be acutely perceptive, with a natural flair and capacity for innovative and original thought – being most able to interpret, conceptualise, create and deliver projects effectively within a comprehensive variety of spheres, media and formats. My extensive working experience, creative-media and teaching knowledge has given me a deep and genuine understanding of what works effectively with regard to target audiences, clients and end users, The successes I have achieved in applying these qualities in real-world, working situations to produce satisfactorily delivered project outcomes and accessible information solutions are demonstrable. I would add that I assimilate and synthesise quickly, am endlessly curious and with an eagerness to continue to learn. I am an art soldier who has MA in comp lit, MFA in creative writing but art is my renewed passion. I have been teaching for 15 years and my English class is infused with art, which engages the students and makes my work interesting. Recently I edited an anthology of women's work which included art. I conceptualized and designed the book, learning lay out as I went. My students and some artists contributed images, but I did many of the illustrations to fit the literatue. In doing this, I rediscovered my artistic bent and to my delight began selling original prints and attracting the attention of other artists who praise the spirit of my images and my eclectic style. Presently I design book covers, posters, avatars, promotional materials and commercial signage as well as stationary, cards, tee shirts and album covers for bands. None of this convinces me I am ready to be a professional. It is my students' approval that tells me maybe I do indeed have a gift and the right tone for freelance work. Teenagers are the harshest critics and the demographic most wish to appeal to. Words cannot do much to explicate my ability as an artist. Its best to show you what I have, and assure you I am prolific. I am also willing to work for less to gain experience and skill. No matter what kind of work I do I am diligent, professional, responsible, versatile and resourceful. I learn quickly, abide deadlines and tend to be autodidactic. I use both MAC and PC. If one needs to use setting, sub culture or other distinct themes I am adept at research and familiar with mstniconic periods in history. Vintage clothing is my preference and making desgns for fabric has been an activity I do but not in any official capacity so far. I prefer making digital art and stylized images, especially for books, print art and ads, but I do I have strong sense of color and balance with unique approach to composition as well as an intuitive grasp of what others are looking for so I am open to other possibilities . I am very observant and articulate, a good communicator. I have worked with fabric pants and sold original hand painted clothing in th 80s to punks, goth and heavy metal rockers and ********* I do understand fashion is better when simple lines are employed and form is inherent with the shapes and needs of the target . However fashion is not a preoccupation. I can, however, do illustrations of clothes modeled by appealing human forms . My sense of culture is strong, so is my familiarity with American pop culture.
