I'm a thirty-year-old former Language Arts and Reading teacher, looking to get back in to editing and possibly some writing and illustrating. In college, I began as a journalism major, but when I transferred schools, this wasn't offered. I ended up majoring in Psychology and minoring in Counseling and English. In 2008, I had the opportunity to work as an editing assistant for a non-fiction, overseas missions/volunteering magazine. I received on-the-job training while working one-on-one with their head editor. Some of my duties were analyzing past sales to determine which books would be selected for purchase from their in-magazine catalog and writing short, descriptive summaries (blurbs!) of their content; building spreadsheets and designing mock-ups for the final catalog design and then translating that information for the graphic design department; and extensive proofreading of all articles included in the issue, editing for grammar as needed, choosing suitable, attention-grabbing "pull-quotes," and rearranging content for better overall flow and readability. In 2010, I worked as a copy editor for a publishing company. I was responsible for editing around 15 manuscripts each month. These ranged from non-fiction, informative books, to fiction, books of poetry, and children's books, both fiction and non. I read each manuscript thoroughly, correcting grammar, punctuation, verb tenses, word usage, spelling, and formatting according to the publisher's standards. I made sure that all grammar adhered to the current Chicago Manual of Style and checked all word spelling against Merriam-Webster's dictionary. For each manuscript, I composed a style sheet noting any outstanding, recurrent errors, and made in-depth notes and suggestions to be referred to by following editors on character development and inconsistencies, errors, or "holes" in the plot development, as well as noting any missing or, adversely, any superfluous, unnecessary text- basically anything that would take the reader "out of" the story. In more recent years, I've worked as a paraprofessional in an elementary school, and then as a certified teacher in fifth and sixth grade classes. I taught Language Arts and Reading and Art. I'm an avid reader (especially fiction and psychology-based books) and I'm passionate about sharing a love of reading, especially with young people. I feel like my strength lies in editing, both for grammar and conceptually, to help with the flow of a plot. I'm also interested in creative writing and would love to help someone brainstorm and develop their ideas into something great! Through my experiences editing and working with children, I've developed an interest in children's literature, and would like to share ideas and help writers polish their stories into something entertaining and meaningful for kids. I have an interest in art, and a little talent with drawing, primarily. I've also been taking painting classes recently, to try and branch out a little. I also love photography and am beginning to learn how to combine these media through Photoshop, although I'm still fairly inexperienced with this. Although book editing is my primary focus, I'm also interested in other types of editing. I'm interested in helping people strengthen their resumes, letters of intent, mission statements, or even brainstorming and perfecting speeches, toasts, poems, wedding vows, and the like. I want to help writers improve their work and am flexible and willing to work with them until they are pleased. In my free time, I like to read (clearly!), watch movies and plays, draw, take photographs, rescue old furniture, and spend time with my boyfriend and our two dogs. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and see if I might be a good fit for your project!

My name is Moraima Tinajero. I learned that I was granted with a gift of drawing when I was only 8 years old. Through the years my gift has matured with me. I took great interest in art during my junior high and high school years. I focused in drawing, pottery, as well as in the school art club. Though this education was not of the professional level, it opened a door to my abilities and advanced me into perfectng my techniques. I have learned however, that there is always a way to improve techniques and try new media. I have found that my level of comfort is in that of pencil, charcoal, and pastels. Through my life, I became aquainted with animals and really loved their expressions and personality. These little souls nutured my life in ways I never thought an animal could. I fell in love with the unconditional love and affection they can give to a person. So strong was this love that I enrolled in The Professional Career Developement Institute of Atlanta, GA and achieved certification as an Animal Care Specialist. For a little over 8 years I worked in San Antonio, TX in day time animal practices and in an animal emergency hospital where I further dedicated my love for animals in their time of need and healing. This opened an avenue of people through all facets of life. Through their eyes I entered into their lives; understanding their pain, desperation, and deep love as I read the story their eyes told. It is through an emergency hospital in San Antonio, TX where I learned how humans can come together in times of need and desperation and through which I deeper understood that human-animal bond. I witnessed many happy endings but also many tears as some of our clients lost their beloved family member. I then began offering my services as an artist capturing their pets unique personality through my art. Giving them that special gift of healing by immortilizing the memory of their pets. I am truly blessed to have been part of all those lives (and the wonderful co-workers that became my family) that touched my heart and forever became part of mine. People also possessed great challenges that intrigued my curiosity. Capturing their individual qualities through their expressions and body language became one of my strong accomplishments. Intrigued by my abilities, I enrolled in a correspondence course through The Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis, MN where I further learned different techniques and the use of all media. I was the recipient of their prestigious "Blue Ribbon Art Award". Through hard work and perseverance I have improved my skills (which continue to improve and mature with me) to become the artist I am today. I put my heart and soul into every portrait as to ensure your loved ones unique personality comes through in a realistic true-to-life creation. I truly beleve that "our eyes are the windows to our soul." That is what I try to embrace in each portrait.
