Brandon Tart - Gave 1 kudo
Said "Congrats on the book, Debra! I just noticed where you live... I have an aunt and an uncle in Asheboro - Sid and Paula Keeter... you don't know them, do you? You should look them up - they're great! I did a water Garden there for an engineer named, Hiram Marziano, and he, too, is a super nice guy. I almost moved to the Sea Grove area once about two years ago, but I opted out - it is gorgeous out your way! I am working on getting my own novel published right now, but it is the hardest WAIT I have ever endured. Queries are harder than writing books - if you have any suggestions on directions I should take, or a great agent that you might want to recommend, please let me know. My novel actually has an essay included in it titled, "Are We Home Within Ourselves?" Right now, I could use that feeling of home - I still live in Estonia in my mind. But it made my day to see that a North Carolinian found me here. Thanks for peeking.

Brandon, I self published because I couldn't stand the wait. I got one very nice refusal because it "wasn't right for our collection at this time", the others weren't even polite enough to write to me. I suspect you will have to self publish the first time, and I have read that other authors (who later became very sought after) began by self publishing.Traditional Publishing Houses just won't take a chance on a new comer. I am wrapping up my second book, and I now have a fair publisher , a traditional publisher for this one. Also, don't expect them to read your manuscript. When I was working on my re-write, the person that was assigned to me said"You don't think that we actually read these do you?" A new day has dawned, depressing though it is. Stay away from Xlibris, I feel that they have cheated me , and I do not trust them. I am currently under contract with Schiffer Publishing. You might want to inquire. The woman that is handling my book is called Dinah Roseberry. A neighbor of mine is a writer and she recommended me to Ms. Roseberry. I haven't met Sid and Paula Keeter, but I just might look them up! I've been lonely ,too, as I moved to Asheboro from Virginia about 4 yrs ago.Last summer my 84 yr. old Mother moved here , and is in an apartment across from mine. That keeps me busy! Over all, though, I'm very glad she is with me . I am finally beginning to feel at home here, everyone is friendly but not overly so. I've lived like a hermit because of my writing, and now I need freelance work asap! Brandon, do you know if it is allowable to have more than one portfolio with Freelanced? I'd like to have one for writing samples. 10 pieces isn't enough, and I also have better art work to display. I'd like to read some of your work, if you wouldn't mind. I might be able to put a word in with Schiffer. .
