My passion is helping others recognize and maximize their potential. In my career, I've had managers and mentors who have given me the opportunity to showcase my talents and add value to my organization. I'd like to share my lessons learned as well as my offer my own perspective on navigating the oft bumpy waters of the workplace. I have nearly 25 years of business experience, mostly with Fortune 500 Financial Services firms. I have held a variety of positions in Customer Service and Training, and have been a Manager for more than 15 years. I see hundreds of resumes every year and I'm responsible for dozens of hiring decisions. My approach to leadership is unique. I observe. I consider. I coach. I am not the most important person on a team, I am a member of the team. I tell it like it is. I hate buzz words. I value effort. On a personal note, I'm a native of Brooklyn, New York, and have lived in Connecticut for the last 20 years. In addition to my work in the corporate world, I'm a Culinary School grad, and was fortunate enough to cook professionally for several years. I have two wonderful sons who inspire and amaze me. I love music, books (okay...now my Kindle), and golf. Allow me to assist you with your job search. If you're looking for your first job, your next job, or your last job, I can help you showcase your skills and experience though a high-quality, professional resume, cover letter and proper interview preparation. I will personally work with you to learn about your experience, and understand your goals. Your resume alone cannot get you a job but it can certainly eliminate you from consideration. I look forward to helping you reach the next stage of your career!

In summary, I have held positions in a variety of industries. My primary professional background is in Information Technology (Computer Programming, Web Developer, Information Architecture) as you shall see below. However, in addition to IT, I have years of experience serving as an Editor and Technical Content Writer for Indiana University's award-winning Knowledge Base. While I am interested in creatively and strategically contributing to technology, I have a deeply rooted passion in the art of writing. English composition, essays, non-fiction articles, research journalism, etc., are all within my area of expertise. To briefly summarize my technical background, I am a seasoned User Interface developer for the Web (Desktop and Mobile browsers), applications developer for iOS (via XCode, Cocoa2D, Quartz2D and Objective-C MVC Design Patterns), and information architect for larger platform types such as SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) applications. Presently, I am architecting and implementing scalable, high-performance cloud-based SaaS applications and FreeBSD (open source Operating System based on BSD Unix) server processes including PostgreSQL Database, Django, South (Django database migration tool), Django-Supervisor (version of the Supervisor, or "supervisord", Daemon with a focus in Django management tools, etc. These configurations and best-practices include, but are not limited to, optimizing Database through caching (using NoSQL instance with Redis, for example, to reduce calls to the Database server), Memcache, Gunicorn for WSGI processes proxied through NGINX to host both the dynamic Python-based application and the static assets used throughout the product, etc., along with automated system updates and security audit and alert processes to help with the management of the production server. This role encompasses a great amount of the IT skills I have acquired and honed over the years of my career and I am always interested in taking on tasks that occur at different tiers of the development and hosting system stack. That being said, I do have a great passion for JavaScript, CSS/CSS3, HTML5 (and XHTML Strict), AMD (Asynchronous Module Definition), Responsive Design, along with accessibility standards as designated by the W3C, Section 508, WAI-ARIA standards, etc., to make the Web experience and information within any resulting document through a Web request as accessible to the largest audience as is possible. Following is a technology-based look into the languages and methodologies I have incorporated (and currently incorporate) as it pertains to Information Technology (specifically Web development): As a seasoned Web and Mobile User Interface developer, iOS (iPhone, iPad) App developer and Web programmer, I focus in many languages and methodologies to do my job, including, but not limited to, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS 2.1/3.0, .Net/C# (and .Net 3.5 MVC), Django, Python, Perl, Ajax, JSON, jQuery, jQuery-UI, REST, CRUD, Database architecture, architecture at different tiers of the Web-development process, MVC (Model, View, Controller) architecture programming and best-practices, Objective-C (Mac OS X Applications, iPhone and iPad development), Cocoa Touch, Quartz 2D, Geographic Data, GIS systems (PostGIS, the GeoDjango predecessor to the Django which includes GIS capabilities), etc. Essentially, from an Applications point of view, I am very focused on best practices in the separation of logical functions of an application, such as MVC (Model, View, Controller) and MTV (Model, Template, View), the latter of which is more relevant to the design of the Django framework, whereas Pylons and Catalyst (Perl) follow MVC architecture. As with JavaScript (and ECMAScript to be more general), I do have a background in Flex and Flash application development utilizing ActionScript 3.0+ to great success. This is a framework I am very fond of, in a similar, yet still different manner than MVC in iOS/Objective-C development for Cocoa Touch/Quartz2D. I love developing code for both ECMAScript-based languages (JavaScript, ActionScript 3.0+) and C-Based languages (Objective-C, C++, Java, C#, PHP, etc.). My current resume can be downloaded in DOC format at the following URL: http://www.apokruphos.com/resume/resume-justin_robert_evans.doc I have fairly recently begun to post more "generic" code samples, specifically, JavaScript solutions based on the jQuery library at Github (more to come at the following URL): https://github.com/jurevans/ The following is a list of companies that I am proud to have contributed my skills to. These include companies where I was a salaried employee, independent contractor and also working on a strictly freelance basis: Cook Medical, part of Cook Group, Inc. (Global, privately-held organization), Senior-level User Interface Programmer (World Headquarters, Bloomington, IN) Cisco Systems, UI/UX Developer, Mobile Web App developer, Product Testing Lab Network Administrator (Boxborough, MA campus) Schurz Communications, iPhone, iPad, Android and Web applications developer (Bloomington, IN) Crate and Barrel Headquarters, eCommerce developer and Senior User Interface developer (Northbrook, IL) Ally Bank, Senior User Interface Architect (Charlotte, NC) American Hospital Association (Non-profit national organization), Web and Intranet Developer (Chicago, IL) Utopic Group (Agency), Technologist, Multimedia and Media-for-Web Streaming specialist, Web Developer (Chicago, IL) - Utopic is a Post-Production Video Editing company with a strong focus in television commercials, marketing, advertising, technological solutions for Web and Multimedia, etc., and includes fantastic talent in Production, Video/Audio editing, Design, etc.. Clients of this multifaceted agency included Nintendo, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, among others. More information about my career, past and present, can be found in my resume at the above URL. I would like to take this opportunity now to write in more detail how my career, interests and passions have evolved over the years and what experience and knowledge I have gained as a result: Early into my career as a Technologist (Programmer for Web, Systems Scripting and Programming, Data Architecture, etc.) I took the opportunity of various classes at Indiana University to help me move forward doing what I love to do. Most notable of these classes offered to employees of the university was the Unix Systems Administration Education Certification course provided by the Unix/Linux systems group under UITS (University Information and Technology Services). I successfully completed the course after administrating, maintaining and securing a Sun Solaris system and earned the best Nessus security auditing results. Along with the System-V flavor of Unix in Solaris, I have a strong background in BSD systems (FreeBSD, NetBSD, Darwin, etc.) with my main platforms of choice being Linux and Mac OS X for most of the work I do, and FreeBSD and NetBSD as my favorite systems for converting older hardware into useful machines (often advanced firewalls, routers, network bridges, etc.). In addition to my heavy focus in Unix-based systems, I worked at Cisco Systems in Boxborough, MA between April and September of 2012 before returning to Bloomington, IN, and it was there that I became very well versed in the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of various Cisco Switches, Virtual-LANs, WLANs, Firewalls, Routers, 802.11/n/g WiFi and other appliances using different versions of IOS, the underlying operating system for these appliances and their respective command-line console interfaces. Along with my passion for designing, developing and delivering captivating User Interfaces across different platforms, and my interest and passion for learning, understanding and configuring networking hardware, I am also a classically-trained musician with extensive composition and Audio Engineering experience. The nature of my career is Multimedia, and as such I have had experience in ActionScript 3+ (ECMAScript) for Flash, Flex and Adobe Air, extensive Photoshop and Illustrator experience, 3D Modelling, Texturing and Animation-rigging experience in Alias/Wavefront and Autodesk Maya. Before college, I studied music both at High School (Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble) and the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University, Bloomington, IN). In addition to music I had an aptitude for physics, mathematics, and I earned my Honors Diploma in English. My background in art went from a mere hobby to a true passion at a very young age. During the summer between third, 4th and 5th grade I was enrolled at Indiana University in an advance summer course in art with a focus on sketching figures and perfecting technique. This led me to pursue sketches with various types of ink overlays, and ultimately I used this talent to map planes in 3D for extruding and modelling to perfect scale. In Maya, I was also an avid Wacom tablet user for the various "paint" tools provided and for the fantastic support of such devices in PhotoShop. In addition to my work for the Web and for Mobile devices, I have worked as a professional Audio Engineer and Video Editor for a local public Radio and Television station. I am well-versed in Avid, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro for work in Video. For Audio, my main tools include Pro-Tools, Reaper, Steinberg Cubase SX, SoundForge, Logic, Digital Performer, Master Tracks Pro (for MIDI) among others. I have been working with the MIDI protocol for nearly seventeen years and still actively utilize complex MIDI set-ups and a wide variety of both hardware and software for the production of original compositions, some of which are created specifically for Film. Prior to focusing specifically on Web (and a few years after, Mobile) technologies and User Interfaces, I was a Content Editor for a technical Knowledge Base at Indiana University. Responsible for the accuracy, maintenance and consistency of over ten-thousand documents, I was able to hone my abilities as a technical writer (and a writer in general). Currently, I am interested in pursuing freelance work along any avenues as is possible in hopes to focus on Mobile development for iOS (iPhone and iPad specifically), Web User Interfaces and User Experience design, and also MVC development both in the Business layer of applications (middle-tier) and in the Client-side application tier (MVC representations of Client-to-Server data modelling, Ajax driven RIAs or Rich Internet Applications, and, of course, Mobile utilizing practices such as templating and Backbone.js, a fantastic platform for organizing and extending the capabilities of the Clients-side application). I look forward to contributing my talents and experience where they may be most applicable. In my spare time I am also working on a full-service Recording Studio in Bloomington, IN which also houses Animation and Video Editing production areas. Currently we have two audio production rooms for producing compositions and recording/sequencing performances for various projects, including Video post-production. For video and 3D animation, our animator has full access to these resources and talent creating a multifaceted production facility. In addition to production and recording, we also offer mastering services. Our core focus is in unique compositions for performance and film. Among the heavily electronic-based music we create, we have had much success with in-house recordings of many acoustic instruments as well, making great use of the unique microphone collection we have put together over quite a long period of time. Our knowledge of studio signal flow, in-house electronic repairs, audio editing and mixing, video and animation production and editing allows us to be as creative and productive in the many areas of interests that we as a team have and worked together to make manifest our ideas and inspirations. Our most important asset is the personnel who contribute their talents and put in all of their effort and dedication as time allows. Feel free to contact me about anything! If there is any way that I may be able to contribute to your project to help your business succeed, I would love to start a dialog and quickly and carefully work out the details and begin working together! My hourly rates are completely dependent on many factors, including the technology used, the equipment and software I would be required to use, any possible travel time, etc., and my rates may ultimately be higher or lower depending on the project, deadlines, prioritization and situation. I strive to be as fair and reasonable as possible and will gladly work with you to help figure out what works best for both parties. I want to help you succeed in your business as much as I wish to succeed in my own! I look forward to working with you and contributing in any way possible! Thank you much in advance for any possible consideration and I look forward to any collaboration that may occur in the future!
