Whether it’s for international media corporations or the children he encounters in his own life, Matt Bethune loves creating stories with colorful characters. Matt began performing at the tender age of 5 when he, ever the type to do whatever his big brother did, begged to be allowed into the same acting class his brother was enrolled in. An uncontrollable urge to pick up a puppet at the age of 17 lead to his studying puppetry at the University of Connecticut. During his Freshmen year, he finally found out how to get, how to get to Sesame Street when he was invited to the set, and was given the honor of putting on the Elmo muppet. Back in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan, Matt was commissioned by the United Way to write and perform a puppet show aimed at teaching early elementary students what it meant to live as part of a community, and how they could help make theirs a better place. The show toured to dozens of schools in Saginaw County, enriching the lives of thousands of children. Matt went on to earn a B.S. in Electronic Media and Broadcasting from Eastern Michigan University. Fascinated by the changing effect digital technologies were having on traditional stories, Matt decided to obtain his M.A. in Digital Storytelling from Ball State University. While at Ball State, Matt was awarded a WIPB Student Grant award to create an original children’s television program entitled Our Magical World. Matt oversaw all aspects of the show, doing everything from writing and performing two principal puppet characters, to producing and editing the show as well. The Indiana episode of the program aired on PBS. Most recently, Matt has been hired as a digital puppeteer for an exciting new show at Hershey’s Chocolate World, and serves as a production assistant for various clients, including Sprout, Reebok, and the National Football League. He continues booking freelance writing and performing jobs, and is developing his own preschool series called Max’s Imaginationland.

Sharon Morton Smith ~ Writer & Editor Background I am a writer and editor, currently splitting my time between interpretive writing and novel editing. I have 14 years of experience writing educational text for visitor centers and museums, curricula and brochures; for the past year, I have also been editing the novels of Michael S. Malone, a well-known Silicon Valley journalist, author, and entrepreneur. Since 2007, I have been the co-owner, writer, and editor for Lodestar Studio, Inc. in Portland, Oregon, where I act as “standard-bearer” for all content, including research, planning and storyline direction, interpretive text-writing and editing, and art and photo research. Exhibit writing requires a talent for doing extensive research into complicated ideas, boiling down the most important elements and/or stories, and expressing them clearly and accessibly for the selected audience. My training immersed me in the academic world, and every day—both as editor and as writer—I make use of the grammar, syntax, and academic rigor I learned there. At the same time, I have become adept over the years at adjusting my writing to meet the needs of the project, making sure that the information presented is accurate, readable, and memorable. Experience Fiction Editor, Barking Rain Press, Vancouver Washington, 2012-present Managing Partner, Exhibit Writer/Planner, Lodestar Studio, Inc., 2007-present Exhibit Writer/Planner, PPI Exhibit Design & Fabrication, 2003-2007 Exhibit Writer/Researcher, Formations, Lake Oswego, Oregon, 2001-2003 Exhibit Writer/Researcher, Indiana Historical Society, 1999-2000 Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Delaware and University of Oregon: US History Survey, US History of Women, Film as History, and African-American History, 1995-1999 Piano training and participation as singer in choirs and small mixed ensembles, 1962-present Medical transcriptionist for Pacific Communities Hospital and as a freelancer, 1983 - 1995 Education BA, Humanities, Creative Writing emphasis, Marylhurst College, Portland, Oregon, 1994. Malone, the first in a 4-part book series set in Silicon Valley. Published by Barking Rain Press in Fall of 2013. The second in the series, , will be published in late 2014. Cost of Goods Sold, the second in the Silicon Valley series by Michael S. Malone. The book is set in China, Oxford, England, Washington DC, and Silicon Valley. Since 2007, I have volunteered my writing, editing, and photo research services for PSC’s promotional materials—including website text, concert programs, posters and postcards, ads, promotional emails, and grant applications. Interpretive projects I launched my exhibit design career in 1999 by writing “Jazz in Indiana,” an exhibit for Indiana Historical Society. Projects for Formations, Inc. included a 200-page content outline for the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, KY, as well as exhibit planning and text for the Rupp House in Gettysburg, and several other history and natural history projects. For PPI Exhibit Design & Fabrication, I completed more than a 20 exhibit projects, including four visitor centers for the BLM and a history exhibit for Royal Caribbean Cruse Lines. My name is Jacob, but I also go by Jake. I'm 30 yrs old and I live with my soul mate. We have a 6 yr old daughter. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading books, and playing the piano. I also love to write. I know this is a computer but people consistently compliment me on my penmanship; silly, I know, but I'm kind of proud of it. I have dreams of writing a self-help book one day that will teach people how to cope with their own problems so that they may respect others'. I like to teach, but more than that I love to learn.
