Sharon Morton Smith ~ Writer & Editor Background I am a writer and editor, currently splitting my time between interpretive writing and novel editing. I have 14 years of experience writing educational text for visitor centers and museums, curricula and brochures; for the past year, I have also been editing the novels of Michael S. Malone, a well-known Silicon Valley journalist, author, and entrepreneur. Since 2007, I have been the co-owner, writer, and editor for Lodestar Studio, Inc. in Portland, Oregon, where I act as “standard-bearer” for all content, including research, planning and storyline direction, interpretive text-writing and editing, and art and photo research. Exhibit writing requires a talent for doing extensive research into complicated ideas, boiling down the most important elements and/or stories, and expressing them clearly and accessibly for the selected audience. My training immersed me in the academic world, and every day—both as editor and as writer—I make use of the grammar, syntax, and academic rigor I learned there. At the same time, I have become adept over the years at adjusting my writing to meet the needs of the project, making sure that the information presented is accurate, readable, and memorable.
