Marcus Kiser Ksrstudios.com Mfkiser2002@yahoo.com Graphic Design and Illustration Kiser’s work draws inspiration from a broad range of sources ranging from classical art to comic books and graffiti. He’s an artist and graphic designer who’s comfortable in an equally broad range of media, from studio art to books, clothes and magazine covers — all distinguished by his ability to distill ideas to a striking, almost iconic image that is often dense and multilayered, yet always accessible. - Creative Loafing, “best of “ issue Experience Studio c/catawba publishing, Charlotte, NC 2007-2011 Graphic designer /Illustrator Trip magazine, Charlotte, NC 2006-2007 Graphic designer/Production assistant Hi-rez graphix, Charlotte, NC 2002-2006 Graphic designer/Illustrator Binders art center, Charlotte, NC 1999-2005 Night manager Education Associates degree, digital design, Art Institute of Charlotte Fine arts transfer program Central Piedmont community college Computer Knowledge Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Mac and PC platforms Volunteer /Community Work Pecha Kucha, 2010 graphic designer volunteer Noda Film Festival, 2009 graphic designer Mint Museum of art, 2009 after school art volunteer Social Push llc 2008, graphic designer Kidz Can Stay, 2006, graphic design and art instructor Charlotte Music and Skateboard Festival 2006, graphic designer Johnston YMCA, 2005, art instructor Published/ Featured Works Muralist, Verizon Wireless how sweet the sound tour, 2010 Pecha Kucha, poster featured in PK Global daily, 2010 Creative Loafing, Cover Illustrator, (various issues) 2009-2010 Creative Loafing, Interior Illustrator, Strange Issue 2010 Artist feature, Flyer Design Goodness blog, 2010 Artist feature, Beyond Design (next day flyer blog), 2010 Artist feature, Thrillist.com, 2010 Heavy Starch, art book, 2010 Homemade Time machine, childrens book, 2010 7th class Citizen, art book, 2009 After, comic book, 2007 Invisible Soldier, anthology, 2005 Lectures 2010 The Mint Museum Point 8 Forum, Charlotte NC 2009 Clinton College, Rock Hill SC 2009 Winthrop University, Rock Hill SC 2009 Appalachian State University, Boone NC 2008 Johnston C. I received my Master's Degree in Fine Art from The University of Michigan in 2011, with an emphasis in sculpture and drawing. My art is an expression of personal paranoia created in an aesthetic style similar to E.C. Comics, MADD Magazine, and retro animatronics: grotesque, yet playful. A major influence of mine are dark rides. I grew up near Pittsburgh, and would ride the numerous dark rides at Kennywood Amusement Park every summer. My favorite was Le Cachot created by Bill Tracy. I am currently a member of DAFE (Darkride And Funhouse Enthusiasts), and have gone on several outings and behind-the-scenes tours. Working in the dark ride industry has been a life-long dream of mine, and I am will jump at the opportunity to do so. I am familiar with many different technical processes of sculpture: -Metal working: TIG Welding, MIG Welding, ARCH Welding, bronze pouring -Polymer clay sculpting: i.e. Super Sculpey molding and baking -Plaster casting and subtractive sculpting -Mold making using plaster, rubber, and algenate -Basic mechanical techniques incorporating motors, motion sensors, simple electronics I -like all of the other applicants for this position- am a horror movie aficionado, but what sets me apart is the academic research I have done into grotesque imagery. In addition to my art historical background, I have traveled to Rome, Florence, Paris, and throughout India documenting depictions of demons, Last Judgment/ Hell scenes, antique weaponry, and monster designs across cultures and time periods. I have amassed a visual library not found in movies, textbooks, or the Internet -making my aesthetic background and subsequent designs unique. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to hear back from you, -Sean Darby Below is my abridged resume; a full resume is available upon request.
