When I was six years old, I had a strong desire to be on television. I wanted to be on the TV so bad that I started asking my mom, how the people were getting on television. When my mom told me that they use a camera, that really made me curious. I used to get my dads polaroid camera, looking inside of the lens trying to figure out how to make it work so that I could get on TV. I convinced my brother that if he would help me get the TV open, we could surprise everyone by being on television when they woke up. One day my brother told my mom, which got me in trouble. Since he told on me, I decided that he did not want to be a part of it so, I would make my attempts without his help. I used to get up every morning, right before day break and before everyone woke up. I was smart enough to time it where it was light enough in the house, so that I could creep around, without turning on lights and waking someone up. I did this for several weeks before I figured out that this is not how I get on television because I was not using the camera with it. I laugh about it now because, at that time, I did not have enough sense to realize that my brother and I could have been electrocuted because, I was not unplugging the television while doing this. I first began noticing my talent when I was in the fourth grade. I won an award from former Detroit Mayor, Coleman A. Young, for a poster I made for the “Clean Up Detroit” Campaign. When I was in the seventh and eighth grade, people would always compliment me on how good they thought my handwriting was. When I was in the tenth grade, my English teacher, Ms. Gibbs noticed my ability to write poetry. She would give me extra poem writing assignments and every single time I turned in a poem I wrote, she would always leave the classroom, to go to show it to other teachers. Since Gibbs was over the school’s Yearbook Club, she asked me if I would be the poetry writer for the school yearbook. I continued to write poems for the yearbook, until I graduated. I really enjoyed writing and asking a lot of questions to get the facts so much that I also developed a strong interest in Journalism. A few years ago, I started writing everyday until I realized that I had written so much that I needed to go to a Broadcasting school so that I could discover how I would share the things I wrote, with the rest of the world. That led me to completing the Radio and Film Program at the Specs Howard School of Media Arts. I was still hungering for more knowledge in the industry so, I completed and eight-week “World of Post” editing workshop at the Specs Howard School. When I found out about the Digital Media Arts program, I enrolled in that. Being a student at Specs, I learned so much in radio, television and web design. I am also looking forward to learning some amazing things at Lawrence Technological University, where I will be working on my Associates Degree in Radio and Television broadcasting, after which, I will pursue my Bachelor’s Degree in Media Communications. I have been consistently writing for over six years now. I have written commercials, short films, television/radio show ideas, poetry, books, and web blogs. I am looking forward to taking everything that I have learned from the Specs Howard School of Media Arts and Lawrence Technological University, to use to create jobs.

I have always had a passion for reading, writing, and helping others. At the University of Arkansas, I have already had so many opportunities to pursue these passions while dedicating myself to the study of English Literature and chemical engineering. I am so thankful for these opportunities. I can only look forward as I prepare myself for what the future holds.

Using various electronic means, I am an artist. Graphic Design, animation, production and post-production, videography, and photography are not only my passion and skill base, but also my profession. Many directors and producers have influenced my style and direction, and acted as personal and professional mentors. However, my father, a cinematographer and Visual Arts professor, has been my biggest influence. When I was a young child he would draw cartoons for me, and from my earliest memories I wanted to be able to draw like him. That’s why I started drawing and painting, which led to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design. When I was only 11 years old, my father purchased a computer for me—an original Commodore 64, which are now fixtures in museums around the world. This simple machine encouraged me to learn how to do computer programming, and began to bridge my artistic pursuits with my love of computers and technology Photography became a serious hobby at the age of 14 when my father again made a purchase that influenced my life: a camera. He taught me how to use this Russian SLR, taught me about exposure, and provided valuable tips on composition. Growing up in a house involved in the arts I was always around experts in the field, and was lucky enough to have one of Iran’s best photographers as my tutor. Over time, as computer graphics improved I became obsessed with motion graphics and visual effects. So, I decided to get a masters degree in computer animation, which I obtained in 2004 from the University of Westminster in London. I returned home to Tehran in 2005 and began teaching computer graphics and animation at some of the best universities in Iran. Teaching helped me keep my knowledge up to date, and helped me expand my knowledge of new tools and techniques. Professionally, I have worked in many different fields, which has given me a great understanding about the nature of the media and advertising business. This experience has included cofounding a media production company, which continues to be successful. My skill set now spans from basic graphic and web design to motion graphics and video editing, from production to set design to postproduction, and from still photography to industrial photography and on to motion video. My skills resemble a Swiss Army knife: the right tool and knowledge for the right job. I was born on the 31st of January 1975 in Tehran, Iran, and grew up in Iran, France and the United Kingdom. I moved to Auckland in October 2010, and am now making it my new home. Ardeshir “Harry” Alemi* *My father named me after a Persian King, Ardeshir, which means the sacred king. But soon everyone realized that this name is not an easy to either pronounce or remember. Ardeshir was shortened to “Ardi” when I was young. Alas, when living in Europe as a kid, Ardi was still difficult for some people to pronounce, so I was given the name “Harry.” I’ve kept that name as my middle name since.

I am a 4th year art major at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I have been praised for my keen eye for detail and drawing skills. I'm very good at planning out a design, and love using colors to convey an idea behind any piece. Once I grasp an idea I take it to the next level. I can do simple and clean very well, but especially love working on detail oriented designs. I'm energetic and always have lots of creative ideas going through my head at any given moment.
