Thank you Jamie! When it comes to sketching, I love working either with pen or charcoal/cante. But when it comes to painting, oil painting is my all time favorite. However, since I'm not making that much to buy good quality oil paints, which can be pretty pricy, I stick with acrylics, which I also enjoy :).

I just took a look at your portfolio Tom. Absolutely breathtaking. It's so easy, when working in the photo-realistic technique, for a painting to look simply like a copy of a photo, but you do it with so much style and finesse, I marvel at your paintings not really because they are so realistic, but because you have found the small gap that most artist's don't, between the world's reality and the artist's reality(/vision). So amazing...where did you learn??

Wow thanks so much for that Erin! It's so funny you say that now as I'm seriously playing around with new, more impressionistic styles at the moment. I trained with a brilliant teacher and illustrator called Roger Barcilon, in England. He subsequently set up a school in Austin, Texas . Not only can he do it, but he can teach it too...very rare. I'm going to post my new oil style soon on my website www.thomascroft.co.uk have a look and let me know what you think! I'm also about to enter the BP Portrait award in March, but that's in a more realistic style...Cheers Erin.
